Lushnjë District

The District of Lushnjë (Albanian: Rrethi i Lushnjës) is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania, part of Fier County. It has a population of 143,276 (2010 estimate), and an area of 712 km². It is in the west of the country and 80 km south of Tirana. Its capital is Lushnjë. Shkumbin

Shkumbin is a river in central Albania, flowing into the Adriatic Sea. It is considered the dividing line for the two dialects of the Albanian language: Tosk (to the south) and Gheg (to the north). On various historical periods the river was considered the northernmost natural boundary of the geographic region of Epirus. while during the 5th-6th centuries Shkumbin was the cultural border between the Illyrian and the Greek world. The river is 181 km long.

Lushnjë

Lushnjë or Lushnje is a city in Central-West Albania located at 40.95°N, 19.71°E. It is the center of the District of Lushnje in the County of Fier and has a population of about 54,813. The town was founded in late medieval times by a Turkish widow called Salushe. She built a rest stop on the road from Durrës to Berat, giving birth to the town. As of 2000, old men still called the town Salushe.

Battle of Savra

The Battle of Savra was fought on 18 September 1385 between Ottoman and much smaller Serbian forces. In 1385 Balsa Balsich conquered Durazzo,presumably from Karlo Thopia. In a charter to Dubrovnik issued in April 1385, he called himself Duke of Durazzo. He was not to enjoy his prize for long. That summer a Turkish raiding party for the first time penetrated to the Adriatic and Ionian coast.
