Aïn El Ibel

Aïn El Ibel is a town and commune in Djelfa Province, Algeria. According to the 1998 census it has a population of 20,436. The N18 and the N1 Trans Saharan highway connects it to the provincial capital of Djelfa in the northeast. To the southwest of the town are a number of fields in which the inhabitants grow crops.

Rock art of the Djelfa region

The rock art of the Djelfa region consists of prehistoric engravings of Neolithic age which have been recognized since 1914. Following the Saharan Atlas Mountains they follow on from those, to the west, of south Oran (the regions of Figuig, Ain Sefra, El-Bayadh, Aflou and Tiaret), to which they are related. Comparable engravings have also been described further to the east, in the Constantine (Algeria) region.
