Peel River (New South Wales)

Peel River, a watercourse that is part of the Namoi catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, is located in the Northern Tablelands district of New South Wales, Australia. The river rises rises on the northern slopes of the Liverpool Range, at the junction of the Great Dividing Range and Mount Royal Range, south of the village of Nundle, and flows generally north, west and north west and emerges into the Liverpool Plains near Tamworth.

Keepit Power Station

Keepit Power Station is a hydroelectric power station at Keepit Dam near Gunnedah, New South Wales, Australia. Keepit has one turbine with a generating capacity of 7.2 MW of electricity. The power station was completed in 1960, running one 6 MW turbine. In 1983 it was upgraded to 7.2 MW.

Keepit Dam

Keepit Dam is a water storage dam on the Namoi River in New South Wales, Australia. Keepit Dam retains water from the Namoi River 13 kilometres upstream of its junction with the Peel River for flood control and irrigation. It is also used for local recreation, fishing and water skiing. It is the location of one of the premier soaring (gliding) sites in Australia - the Lake Keepit Soaring Club. It is located between the towns of Gunnedah and Manilla about 400 km north of Sydney.

Carroll, New South Wales

Carroll is a parish and small village on the Oxley Highway, 20 km east of Gunnedah, New South Wales. In 2006, Carroll had a population of 447 people. The Namoi River runs approximately parallel to the highway which is also the main street there. Periodically this river floods the town and surrounding area, forcing the closure of the Oxley Highway. The surrounding area is part of the Liverpool Plains region. Carroll is an Aboriginal word for ‘forked tree’.

Somerton, New South Wales

Somerton is a village between the Peel River and the Oxley Highway in northern New South Wales Australia. In the 2006 Census, there were 279 persons usually resident in Somerton (Suburb): 50.9% were males and 49.1% were females. The area surrounding Somerton is an agricultural region where there is cropping, together with sheep and beef cattle breeding. Lucerne is grown along the fertile Peel River flats.
