Flowerdale, Tasmania

Flowerdale, Tasmania is a rural community in the Waratah-Wynyard municipality. Significant geographic features include the Flowerdale River which flows into the Inglis River, leading out to the ocean via the town of Wynyard. At the 2006 census, Flowerdale had a population of 402. The Flowerdale valley is constituted of mostly dairy land, which is a major industry of north-west Tasmania.

Wynyard, Tasmania

Wynyard is a rural town on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia 16 kilometres west of Burnie on the Bass Highway at the mouth of the Inglis River. At the 2006 census Wynyard had a population of 4,812. It is part of the Waratah-Wynyard Council local government area and a major regional hub, servicing many of the surrounding rural districts. The largest employer in the town is the cheese factory, owned by the New Zealand dairy company Fonterra.

Lapoinya, Tasmania

Lapoinya (pronounced La-porn-ya) is a small agricultural centre on the north-west coast of Tasmania west of Wynyard. The name is Tasmanian aboriginal word for "fern tree", a plant that abounds in those surviving untouched parts of the original temperate rainforest. At the 2006 census, Lapoinya had a population of 368. First developed commercially around 1900 it has been a centre for forestry, mixed agriculture (especially potato-growing and grazing .
