Dunneworthy, Victoria

Dunneworthy is a district located approximately 16 kilometres North East of the town of Ararat, Victoria, Australia. When surveyed in the 1850s there were plans for a sizeable township and a railway station was built. Development never eventuated and today the district is home to approximately 100 people. The largest property in the area was named named after the district ("Dunneworthy"), when it was split from the original Woodlands run that comprised practically all the land west of Ararat.

Langi Ghiran State Park

The Langi Ghiran State Park is 14 km east of Ararat in the state of Victoria, Australia. The park covers an area of 2695 ha. The park can be used for camping, walking and driving. It has steep granite peaks and gentle sloping open woodland sections. The name Langi Ghiran means 'home of the black cockatoo' in the local Djab Wurrung people's language. Other parks nearby are Mount Buangor in the East and the Grampians in the distant West.

The Pyrenees is a wine region centred on the Pyrenees ranges located in Victoria, Australia near the town of Avoca. The altitude of the ranges is 300 to over 750 m (approximately 980–2460 ft). Main peaks in the range include Mount Avoca (747 m) and Mount Warrenmang (537 m).

Wimmera River

The Wimmera River is a river in Western Victoria, Australia. It begins in the Pyrenees, and flows northwards into Lake Hindmarsh and Lake Albacutya and, exceptionally, into a chain of ephemeral lakes further north in Wyperfeld National Park and the Big Desert Wilderness Park. In most years flows do not reach these terminal lakes and the river contracts to a series of pools. Its major tributaries include Mount William Creek and the MacKenzie River.

Hopkins Correctional Centre (Ararat), an Australian low to medium security prison for males, is located in Ararat, Victoria, Australia, approximately 200 kilometres west of Melbourne. The centre is operated by Corrections Victoria, an agency of the Department of Justice of the Victorian Government. The centre accepts felons convicted under Victorian and/or Commonwealth legislation, including a high proportion of sex offenders (50 per cent) and protection or special needs prisoners (50 per cent).
