Bruce Rock, Western Australia

Bruce Rock is a town located in the Eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 243 kilometres east of Perth and 48 kilometres southwest of Merredin. It is the main town in the Shire of Bruce Rock. Originally known as Nunagin or Noonegin the name of the town lead to confusion between other towns such as Narrogin and Nungarin. The name was changed to Bruce Rock after the large granite feature located close to the town. The townsite was gazetted in 1913.

Shire of Bruce Rock

The Shire of Bruce Rock is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 50 kilometres south of Merredin and about 250 kilometres east of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 2,727 square kilometres, and its seat of government is the town of Bruce Rock.

Belka, Western Australia

Belka is a small town located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia between the towns of Bruce Rock and Merredin. The town originated as a station along the railway line for both passengers and heavy goods which was gazetted in 1914. The word is Aboriginal in origin and is thought to mean Ankle. A town hall was built in 1915 and a dam was also completed in the same year.

Ardath, Western Australia

Ardath is a small town located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia 20 kilometres south of the town of Bruce Rock. It was built to serve the Corrigin to Bruce Rock railway, and originally named Kerkenin in April 1914. However, confusion with Kukerin saw its name changed to Ardath, after the name of a prophet in the apocryphal 2 Esdras. The surrounding areas produce wheat and other cereal crops. The town is a receival site for Cooperative Bulk Handling.

Wheatbelt (Western Australia)

The Wheatbelt region is one of the nine regions of Western Australia. It partially surrounds the Perth metropolitan area, extending north from Perth to the Mid West region, and east to the Goldfields-Esperance region. It is bordered to the south by the South West and Great Southern regions, and to the west by the Indian Ocean, the Perth metropolitan area, and the Peel region. Altogether, it has an area of 154,862 square kilometres (including islands), and a population of about 72,000 people.
