Kanowna, Western Australia

Kanowna is a ghost town in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. It is located about 20 km east of Kalgoorlie. After the discovery of gold in the area in 1893, the townsite was gazetted in 1894. and the population grew from 2,500 in 1897 to over 12,500 by 1899. However, the alluvial gold supply was rapidly exhausted and underground mines following the outcropping vein produced decreasing amounts of gold, resulting in a slow but steady decrease in the population.

2010 Kalgoorlie-Boulder earthquake

The 2010 Kalgoorlie-Boulder earthquake was a Richter magnitude 5.0 earthquake that occurred near the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia on 20 April 2010, at approximately 8:17 am WST. The earthquake caused major damage to the historic buildings in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Its epicenter was approximately 10 km southwest of Kalgoorlie, at a depth of 10 km . The duration of shaking lasted about 10–15 seconds and was felt up to 1,007 km away.

Neils Hansen Stadium

The Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium is located in the West Australian regional city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The stadium is owned and administered by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Basketball Association. From March through to August each year, it is the home of the Goldfields Giants of the State Basketball League of Western Australia (SBL) and it has a maximum capacity of around 1200 for SBL games.

Western Australian School of Mines

The Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) was founded in 1902 as a tertiary school specialising in subjects directly related to the Western Australian mining industry. Originally located in Coolgardie, WASM later move to Kalgoorlie and continued to be primarily funded from independent sources. In 1969 the Department of Mines transferred management of WASM to Western Australian Institute of Technology which later became Curtin University.
