Westvleteren Brewery

The Westvleteren Brewery is a Belgian brewery founded in 1838 inside the Trappist Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren in the Belgian municipality of Vleteren, not far from the hops-producing town of Poperinge and the medieval city of Ypres. The brewery and its beers are usually referred to as Westvleteren.

Westvleteren Abbey or St. Sixtus' Abbey, Westvleteren, which belongs to the Cistercians of Strict Observance, or Trappists, is located in Westvleteren, West Flanders, in Belgium. The abbey is famous for its spiritual life, characterised by prayer, reading, and manual work, the three basic elements of Trappist life. It has also a reputation for its brewery, one of the several breweries of Trappist beer in Belgium.

Westvleteren

Westvleteren is a village in the province of West Flanders, Belgium. It is a section of the municipality of Vleteren. Westvleteren is primarily known for the Westvleteren Brewery, a brewery founded in 1838 inside the Trappist Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren. Its beers have often been rated best in the entire world. Current brewing capacity is roughly 500,000 cases per year.

Brandhoek

Brandhoek is a small hamlet in Belgium situated between Ieper, Vlamertinge and Poperinge just off the N308/N38. Brandhoek was used as a Field Ambulance and Casualty Clearing Station during World War I and contains three Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries: Brandhoek Military with 601 burials Brandhoek New Military with 514 burials, including Captain Noel Chavasse, Double VC (a memorial plaque is situated just outside Brandhoek Church with the British flag flying) and also Private C.A.

Brandhoek New Military Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery

Brandhoek New Military Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission burial ground for the dead of the First World War located near Ypres (now Ieper) in Belgium on the Western Front. The cemetery grounds were assigned to the United Kingdom in perpetuity by King Albert I of Belgium in recognition of the sacrifices made by the British Empire in the defence and liberation of Belgium during the war.
