Los Lagos Region

Los Lagos Region (Spanish: X Región de Los Lagos, literally Region of the Lakes) is one of Chile's 15 regions, which are first order administrative divisions, and comprises four provinces: Chiloé, Llanquihue, Osorno and Palena. The region contains the country's second largest island, Chiloé, and the second largest lake, Llanquihue. Its capital is Puerto Montt; other important cities include Osorno, Castro, Ancud, and Puerto Varas.

Reloncaví Sound

Reloncaví Sound or Seno de Reloncaví is a body of water located immediately south of Puerto Montt, Chile. It is the place where the Intermediate Depression falls into the Pacific Ocean. There are several islands in the sound including Tenglo Island, Maillén Island and Huar Island. The Puluqui Island and Queulín Island separate it from the Gulf of Ancud.

Huar Island

Huar Island or Guar Island is an island of Calbuco Archipelago located in the Reloncaví Sound. The island is located about 15 km northeast of Calbuco and 20 km south of Puerto Montt. There are 5 settlements in the island and 5 schools: Quetrolauquén, Alfaro, Nalcahue, Chucagua y Colhue. The island was the last place of the Chono people. There is no electricity network on the island, but the 5 schools are connected with Internet.

Calbuco (volcano)

Calbuco is a stratovolcano in southern Chile, located southeast of Llanquihue Lake and northwest of Chapo Lake, in the Los Lagos Region. The volcano and the surrounding area are protected within Llanquihue National Reserve. It is a very explosive andesite volcano that underwent edifice collapse in the late Pleistocene, producing a volcanic debris avalanche that reached the lake.
