Guatuso is the name of the 15th canton in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 758.32 square kilometres, and has a population of 13,984 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is San Rafael de Guatuso.

San Rafael de Guatuso

San Rafael is the capital city of the canton of Guatuso in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the distrito (district) that includes the city. The district of San Rafael covers an area of 304.1 km² (1), and has a population of 7,195. The city lies at an elevation of 50 meters above sea level near the western edge of the San Carlos Plain (Llanura de San Carlos) in northern Costa Rica.

Lake Arenal

Lake Arenal is an artificial lake in Costa Rica, located in the northern highlands of the country. It was enlarged to its present size as a part of a 1979 hydroelectric project by the Costa Rican government to provide electricity to the country.

Arenal Hanging Bridges

The Arenal Hanging Bridges are a series of suspension bridges in the Volcan Arenal National Park offering views of Lake Arenal and Volcan Arenal. The bridges form part of a 2 mile (3 kilometre) self-guided interpretive trail through the rainforest.

Central America Volcanic Arc

The Central America Volcanic Arc (often abbreviated to CAVA) is a chain of volcanoes which extends parallel to the Pacific coast line of the Central American Isthmus, from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and down to northern Panama. This volcanic arc, which has a length of 1500 km, is formed by an active subduction zone along the western boundary of the Caribbean Plate.
