Karup Municipality

For the airport in Karup, see Karup Airport Until 1 January 2007 Karup municipality was a municipality in Viborg County on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 163 km², and had a total population of 6,709 (2005). Its last mayor was Kjeld Merstrand, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Karup.

Karup Airport

Karup Airport is an airport in Denmark. At the request of some middle-and West Jutland politicians airport, it was opened on 1 November 1965 when the first direct connection between Karup and Copenhagen was opened. Airport ownership consisted of Viborg and Ringkjøbing county council districts and the municipalities of Herning, Holstebro, Viborg, Skive, Ikast, Karup, Struer, Ringkøbing, Lemvig and Skjern.

Viborg Municipality

Viborg municipality is a municipality in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 1,390 km², and has a total population of 94,218 (2012). Its mayor is Søren Pape Poulsen, a member of the Conservative People's Party (Denmark) The main city and the site of its municipal council is the city of Viborg.

Battle of Grathe Heath

The Battle of Grathe Heath was fought in 1157 between the Danish armies of Valdemar I and his rival for the Danish throne, Sweyn III. Valdemar's forces won the battle, and Sweyn III was slain while attempting to flee.

Fjends Municipality

Until 1 January 2007, Fjends municipality was a municipality in Viborg County on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 236 km², and had a total population of 8,152 (2005). Its last mayor was Svend Aage Jensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Stoholm. Fjends municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).
