La Ferrassie 1

La Ferrassie 1 is a male Neanderthal skeleton estimated to be 70–50,000 years old. It was discovered at the La Ferrassie site in France by Louis Capitan and Denis Peyrony in 1909. The skull is the largest and most complete Neanderthal skull ever found. The skull displays many of the "classic" examples of Neanderthal anatomy, including a low a, sloping forehead and large nasal openings. His leg and feet bones makes it clear that Neanderthals walked upright like modern humans.

La Ferrassie

La Ferrassie is an archaeological site in Savignac-de-Miremont, in the Dordogne department, France. The site, located in the Vézère valley, consists of a large and deep cave flanked by two rock shelters within a limestone cliff, under which there is a scree slope formation.
