Chaîne des Puys

The Chaîne des Puys is a north-south oriented chain of cinder cones, lava domes, and maars in the Massif Central of France. The chain is about 40 km (25 mi) long, and the identified volcanic features include 48 cinder cones, eight lava domes, and 15 maars and explosion craters. Its highest point is the lava dome of Puy de Dôme, located near the middle of the chain. The name of the range comes from a French term, puy, that refers to a volcanic mountain with a rounded profile.

Rhue (river)

The Rhue (French: la Rhue, also called Grande Rhue) is a 56.6 km long river in the Puy-de-Dôme, Cantal and Corrèze départements, south central France. Its source is at Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, near Super Besse, in the parc naturel régional des volcans d'Auvergne, 4.5 km southeast of the puy de Sancy. It flows generally southwest. It is a left tributary of the Dordogne into which it flows at Bort-les-Orgues. Its main tributaries are the Santoire, the petite Rhue and the Tarentaine.

Chastreix-Sancy

Chastreix-Sancy is a small ski resort situated above the village of Chastreix in central France. The resort is the smallest of the three main resorts situated in the Monts Dore and has no skiable link to the other two resorts. The main activities offered at the resort are alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ski touring, dog sledding and hiking. It is a calm resort popular with families and locals, as it boasts gentle runs, panoramic views and short queues.
