Duchy of Normandy
The Duchy of Normandy grew out of various Danish, Norwegian, Hiberno-Norse, Orkney Viking and Anglo-Danish invasions of West Francia in the 9th century. Normandy began in 911 as a fief, probably a county, in the sense that it was held by a count. It was established by the treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte between King Charles III of West Francia and Rollo, leader of the Vikings known as Northmen, or Nortmanni, in Latin.

Venoix
Situated west from Caen, in Calvados, France, Venoix long was an independent commune. It merged with Caen in 1952 when the development of the nearby city and the need for financially costly infrastructures made it necessary.
