Essonne (river)

The Essonne is a 97 km long French river. It is a tributary off the left bank of the Seine. Its course crosses the departments of Loiret and Essonne, and it gives its name to the latter. The Essone's name and the present name of its higher course originate in Acionna, a Gallo-Roman river goddess attested at Orléans (Genabum).

Corbeil Cathedral

Corbeil Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Spire de Corbeil) in the town of Corbeil-Essonnes was the interim cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Évry–Corbeil-Essonnes. The bishop's seat was established at the foundation of the new diocese in 1966 in the parish church of Saint Spire in Corbeil, which thus became the cathedral.

The Forest of Sénart

Located in Essonne, it covers 3,000 hectares in area, this forest is very important to the local population. The local government has kept roads and agricultural companies from cutting down parts of this forest. There are roughly 2-3 million visitors a year, and the government spends 1.2 million euros a year maintaining the forest.

Château de Grégy

The Château de Grègy is a château in Évry-Grégy-sur-Yerre, Seine-et-Marne, France. The first château was built in 1620 by Antoine de Brennes; two towers remain. Antoine de Clairambault rebuilt the central portion at the beginning of the 19th century, and added wings connecting the tower of a former church to the main building. American decorator and architect Ogden Codman, Jr. owned the château in the 20th century, adding its entry pavilions.
