Château de Breteuil

The Château de Breteuil (previously called the Château de Bevilliers) was built in the early 17th century and decorated principally in the 18th century. It is located in the Île-de-France and the département of Yvelines, France, 35 km to the south-west of Paris in the heart of the renowned Valley of Chevreuse. The château is set in a listed park of some 90 hectares. The family of the Marquis de Breteuil who still lives there gave three ministers to the Kings of France.

Vallée de Chevreuse (Chevreuse Valley) is the name given to the valley of the Yvette River, flowing though the Yvelines and Essonne departments. It encompasses the communes around Chevreuse located within the Parc naturel régional de la haute vallée de Chevreuse and communes further downstream until Palaiseau : Gif-sur-Yvette, Bures-sur-Yvette, Orsay, Villebon-sur-Yvette, etc.

Château de Dampierre

The Château de Dampierre is the castle in Dampierre-en-Yvelines, in the Vallée de Chevreuse, France. Built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, 1675-1683 for the duc de Chevreuse, Colbert's son-in-law, it is a French Baroque château of manageable size. Protected behind fine wrought iron double gates, the main block and its outbuildings, linked by balustrades, are ranged symmetrically around a dry paved and gravelled cour d'honneur.
