Battle of Bouvines

The Battle of Bouvines, which took place on 27 July 1214, was a medieval battle which ended the twelve-year Angevin-Flanders War. It was fundamental in the early development of France in the Middle Ages by confirming the French crown's sovereignty over the Angevin lands of Brittany and Normandy. Philip Augustus of France defeated an army consisting of Imperial German, English and Flemish soldiers, led by Otto IV of Germany.

Ascq

Ascq is a village on the Marque river in the Nord department in northern France, at seven kilometers from Belgium. Agricultural village until the Industrial Revolution, today, it is district of the city of Villeneuve-d'Ascq. Ascq is unfortunately known for the Ascq massacre of 1 April 1944, where the Nazis assaulted the inhabitants and massacred 86 innocent men. The village was decorated with the Croix de guerre 1939–1945 and the Legion of Honour.

Ascq massacre

The Ascq massacre is a massacre of 86 men on April 1944 in Ascq, France, by the Nazis during the Second World War. The 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend set out on rail trucks for Normandy at the end of March, 1944. On April 1944, 1st, the train was approaching the gare d'Ascq when an explosion blew the line apart : two trucks had been derailed.

Saint-Pierre-en-Antioche Church is a Catholic church located in the former village of Ascq, now part of Villeneuve-d'Ascq city, Nord department, northern France. The church hosts since the 18th century a tapestry designated monument historique, called Les Noces de Cana, painted by G. Werniers in 1735.
