Gare de Méru

The Gare de Méru (Méru station) is a railway station located in Méru, France. It is served by TER Picardie trains from Paris Nord to Beauvais. The Persan–Méru line opened on 1 July 1875. The line did not reach Beauvais in the north until 15 April 1876, and did not reach Paris in the south until 5 April 1877. There was at one time a connection to Labosse via a metre gauge branch line.

Jacques Charles

Jacques Alexandre César Charles (November 12, 1746 – April 7, 1823) was a French inventor, scientist, mathematician, and balloonist. Charles and the Robert brothers launched the world's first (unmanned) hydrogen-filled balloon in August 1783; then in December 1783, Charles and his co-pilot Nicolas-Louis Robert ascended to a height of about 1,800 feet (550 m) in a manned balloon.

Jeanne Hachette

Jeanne Laisné (born 1456) was a French heroine known as Jeanne Fourquet and nicknamed Jeanne Hachette ('Jean the Hatchet'). All that she is currently known for is an act of heroism on 27 June 1472, when she prevented the capture of Beauvais by the troops of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. The town was defended by only 300 men-at-arms, commanded by Louis de Balagny.
