Château Grimaldi (Puyricard)

Château Grimaldi at Puyricard near Aix-en-Provence is a mansion built within the ruined walls of a 16th century Château once belonging to the Archbishops of Puyricard. The original castle chapel remains built in the Romanesque style. Between 1655 and 1685 the château served as residence of Cardinal Archbishop Girolamo Grimaldi-Cavalleroni who had rebuilt the chateau which had been in ruins for 70 years.

Puyricard is an agglomeration in the Bouches-du-Rhône département in Provence in the south of France, dependent on the town of Aix-en-Provence, approximately 10 km to the north. It has developed around the old village of Puyricard, which dates back to medieval times.

Entremont (oppidum)
Entremont is a 3.5 hectare archaeological site three kilometres from Aix-en-Provence at the extreme south of the Puyricard plateau. In antiquity, the oppidum at Entremont was the capital of the Celtic-Ligurian confederation. It was settled between 180 and 170 B.C. , somewhat later than the inhabitation of other Gallic oppida, such as Saint-Blaise (7th to 2nd centuries B.C.). The site was abandoned when it was taken by the Romans in 123 B.C.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Aix is an archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic church, in France. The Archepiscopal see is located in the city of Aix-en-Provence. The diocese comprises the department of Bouches-du-Rhône (minus the arrondissement of Marseilles), in the Region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Marseilles. Originally erected in the 1st century as the diocese of Aix, the diocese was elevated to an Archdiocese in the 5th century.

Aix Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur d'Aix) in Aix-en-Provence in southern France is a Roman Catholic cathedral and the seat of the Archbishop of Aix. It is built on the site of the 1st century Roman forum of Aix. Built and re-built from the 12th until the 19th century, it includes Romanesque, Gothic and Neo-Gothic elements, as well as Roman columns and parts of the baptistery from a 6th century Christian church. It is a national monument of France.
