Baltic Cable

The Baltic Cable is a HVDC power line running beneath the Baltic Sea that interconnects the electric power grids of Germany and Sweden. The Baltic Cable uses a transmission voltage of 450 kV – the highest operating voltage for energy transmission in Germany. The total project cost was 2 billion SEK (US$280 million), and the link was put into operation in December 1994. With length of 250 kilometres, it was the second longest high voltage cable on earth, until Basslink came into service in 2006.

Herren Tunnel

The Herren Tunnel is a German 780 metre-long road-tunnel underneath the river Trave. It is part of the national highway Bundesstrasse 75, connecting Lübeck and Travemünde. It is Germany's second toll tunnel, and was opened on 26 August 2005. The tunnel replaces a bridge. Cyclists who could use the bridge regularly are not allowed to cycle through the tunnel and have to detour via Bad Schwartau or use a free shuttle bus through the tunnel.

Behnhaus

The Behnhaus is an art museum in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, Germany, and part of its World heritage site. The Behnhaus as a structure is a neoclassical building with interior design by the Danish architect Joseph Christian Lillie. The museum exhibits furniture from this period, and paintings and sculptures from this period onwards. It specializes in Nazarene art, since Friedrich Overbeck was born in Lübeck. The museum is also known for its collection of works by Edvard Munch.

Katharineum

The Katharineum zu Lübeck is a humanistic gymnasium founded 1531 in the Hanseatic city Lübeck, Germany. In 2006 the 475th anniversary of this Latin school was celebrated with several events. The school uses the buildings of a former Franciscan monastery next to Saint Catherine Church, which was extended in the 1880s. At the Katharineum it is possible to choose Latin as the first foreign language. In year nine it is also possible to choose ancient Greek as the third foreign language.

St. Mary's Church, Lübeck

The Lutheran Marienkirche in Lübeck was constructed between 1250 and 1350. For many years it has been a symbol of the power and prosperity of the old Hanseatic city, and as Germany's third largest church it remains the tallest building of the old part of Lübeck. It is larger than Lübeck Cathedral. Along with the city, the church has been listed by UNESCO as of cultural significance.
