Peloponnese

The Peloponnese, Peloponnesos, or Peloponnesus is a large peninsula, located in a region of southern Greece, forming the part of the country south of the Gulf of Corinth. During the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman era, the peninsula was known as the Morea (Greek: Μωρέας, colloq. Μωριάς), a name still in colloquial use. The peninsula is divided among three regions of Greece: most of it belongs to the Peloponnese region, and parts belong to the West Greece and Attica regions.

Cleomenean War

The Cleomenean War (229/228–222 BC) was fought by Sparta and its ally, Elis, against the Achaean League and Macedon. The war ended in a Macedonian and Achaean victory. In 235 BC, Cleomenes III (r. 235–222 BC) ascended the throne of Sparta and began a program of reform aimed at restoring traditional Spartan discipline while weakening the influence of the ephors, elected officials who wielded extraordinary political power, although they had sworn to uphold the rule of Sparta's kings.

Elaiochori, Arcadia

Elaiochori is a mountain village in Arcadia, Greece. It lies near the border of Argolis. It was historically called Masklina, a Slavic name meaning "olives". The Korinth-Kalamata railway runs through the village. Elaiochori has a population of 487 and is part of the municipal unit of Korythio. Its name comes from its considerable production of olives and olive oil.

Mount Parthenion

Mount Parthenion ("Mount of the Virgin", modern Greek: Παρθένιο - Parthenio) is a mountain on the border of Arcadia and Argolis, in the Peloponnese, Greece. Its elevation is 1,215 m. It is situated between the villages Achladokampos to the northeast and Partheni to the southwest. It is 16 km east of Tripoli. In antiquity, it divided the little plain of Hysiae from that of Tegea. Mount Parthenion is the mountain where the hero Telephus was exposed. Below its slopes lay Tegea.
