Taygetus

Mount Taygetus, Taugetus, or Taygetos is a mountain range in the Peloponnese peninsula in Southern Greece. The name is one of the oldest recorded in Europe, appearing in the Odyssey. In classical mythology, it was associated with the nymph Taygete. During Byzantine times and up until the 19th century, the mountain was also known as Pentadaktylos (Πενταδάκτυλος; Greek for five-fingered, a common name during that period).

Vyros Gorge

The Vyros Gorge (Greek: Φαράγγι του Βυρού) is a deep river gorge situated in the 'Outer Mani' region of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. It runs from the foot of Profitis Ilias (the highest mountain of the Taygetus range) to Kardamyli.

Brontochion Monastery

Brontochion Monastery (Greek: Βροντόχιον, Μονή Βροντοχίου) is a monastery in Mystras, Greece. The abbot Pachomius incorporated into it the small church of the Hodegetria, or "Aphentikon", as the monastery's catholicon. The church was reconstructed and completed around 1310, with some scholars giving 1308-1312 as the construction dates and others 1310-1322.

Petrovouni, Messenia

Petrovouni is a small village on the escarpment above Kardamyli on the Mani Peninsula in Messenia on the southern Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is the home to the Karaveli Monastery and the Faneromeni Monastery of Mani.

Kardamyli

Kardamyli (Greek: Καρδαμύλη, variously transliterated as Kardamyle, Cardamyle, Kardhamili, and Kardamili) is a town by the sea and thirty-five kilometers from Kalamata. It is the seat of the municipality of Lefktro in the region of Mani. In the Iliad (Book 9), Homer cites Kardamyli as one of the seven cities offered by Agamemnon to Achilles as a condition to rejoin the fight during the Trojan War. The village preserves its ancient name.
