Quiriguá

Quiriguá is an ancient Maya archaeological site in the department of Izabal in south-eastern Guatemala. It is a medium-sized site covering approximately 3 square kilometres along the lower Motagua River, with the ceremonial center about 1 km from the north bank. During the Maya Classic Period (AD 200–900), Quiriguá was situated at the juncture of several important trade routes.

Los Amates

Los Amates is a municipality in the Izabal department of Guatemala. Their population is about 56,000. Their mayor is currently Marco Tulio Ramirez Estrada. Los Amates is located on the Motagua River, 6 kilometres from the ruins of the ancient Maya city of Quiriguá.

Bobos River (Guatemala)

The Bobos River is a river in Guatemala. It rises in the Sierra de Caral, a small mountain range in the eastern department of Izabal and runs in a north-westerly direction to join the Motagua River. The Río Bobos Hydroelectric Dam spans the river about 16.5 km south-east of Morales.
