Ballingeary

Ballingeary is a village in the Shehy Mountains in County Cork, Ireland. The village is within the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking area) and has an active Irish-language summer school, Coláiste na Mumhan (The College of Munster). It also hosts a yearly agricultural and horticultural show. The River Lee rises a few miles west of the village, at Gougane Barra National Park.

Battle of Callann

The Battle of Callann was fought in August 1261 between the Normans, under John FitzGerald, and the Gaelic forces of Fínghin Mac Carthaigh, King of Desmond, ancestor of the MacCarthy Reagh dynasty. It took place in the townland of Callan or Collon near modern day Kilgarvan, County Kerry. MacCarthaigh was victorious.

Naomh Abán GAA is a Gaelic football club based in Baile Bhuirne, County Cork, Ireland. It participates in games of the Muskerry division of the Cork GAA. The club has experienced senior grade football within Cork county for many years. They now play in the Premier Intermediate grade. The club has contributed a number of players to the Cork gaelic football team. These have included Anthony Lynch, Mícheál Cronin, Gerry Lucey, Gerry Lynch, Mick Scannell, Peadar Healy and Coleman Twomey.

Knockboy

Knockboy (An Cnoc Buí in Irish, meaning Yellow Mountain) is a 706-metre-high mountain on the border between counties Cork and Kerry in Ireland. It is the highest peak in the Shehy mountain range and the highest mountain in County Cork with its summit shared with County Kerry. It is the 104th highest peak in Ireland.

Anann

Not to be confused with Annan. In Irish mythology, Anann (Anu, Ana, Anand) was a goddess. 'Anann' is identified as the personal name of the Morrígan in many MSS of Lebor Gabála Érenn. With Badb and Macha, she is sometimes part of a triple goddess or a triad of war goddesses. As such, she may be a Celtic personification of death, and is depicted as predicting death in battle. As a goddess of cattle, she is responsible for culling the weak.
