Levanzo

Levanzo is the smallest of the three main Aegadian Islands in the Mediterranean Sea west of Sicily, Italy. It forms a part of the municipality of Favignana in the Province of Trapani. Levanzo has an area of 5,82 km² . The highest point is Pizzo Monaco with a height of 278 m. The island has about 450 inhabitants. The habitation is mainly centered around a tiny port, that gives little shelter from storms. The ancient name of the island was "Phorbantia" which is a sort of plants growing there.

Aegadian Islands

The Aegadian Islands, are a group of small mountainous islands in the Mediterranean Sea off the northwest coast of Sicily, Italy, near the city of Trapani, with a total area of 14.46 square miles . Favignana (Aegusa), the largest, lies 10 miles south west of Trapani; Levanzo (Phorbantia) 8 miles west; while Marettimo, the ancient Iera Nesos, 15 miles west of Trapani, is now reckoned as a part of the group. There are also two minor islands, Formica and Maraone, lying between Levanzo and Sicily.

Riserva naturale integrale Saline di Trapani e Paceco

Riserva naturale integrale Saline di Trapani e Paceco is a nature reserve in the Province of Trapani between the municipalities Marsala, Trapani, and Paceco at the west coast of Sicily. It was founded in 1995 and in the framework of the Ramsar Convention entrusted to WWF Italy. It has an areal of 987 ha and consists of two zones (Zona A and Zona B). Besides a remarkable Mediterranean flora and fauna there is a saline work museum in an old salt mill.

Motya

Motya, was an ancient and powerful city on an island off the west coast of Sicily, between Drepanum and Lilybaeum. The eponymous (in ancient times) island renamed San Pantaleo in the 11th century by Basilian monks is situated in a lagoon on the most western part of Sicily (nearly 850 metres long and 750 metres wide) about one km from the mainland of Sicily, to which it was joined by an artificial causeway (paved road), by which chariots with large wheels could reach the town.
