Shimajiri District, Okinawa

Shimajiri District, Okinawa is a district located in Okinawa, Japan. Modern translation of Shimajiri means "Butt of the island" which may refer to its southerly position on the island of Okinawa. Compare this to Kunigami District, Okinawa. However, there a hundreds of geographic references throughout Japan and even into the northern Kuriles using "shiri", to approximate the Ainu word shir, meaning island.

Sefa-utaki

, meaning "purified place of Utaki," is a Shinto Shrine. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu in Nanjō, Okinawa. Sefa Utaki on Chinen Peninsula has been recognized as a sacred place since the earliest period of Okinawan history. The shrine area itself comprises a number of caves and overhanging ledges opening to the east and south among towering rock formations of a high promontory over the sea.

Shuri Station

Shuri Station (首里駅) is a railway station on the Okinawa Monorail located in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The station was originally planned to be named Tera Station (汀良駅), after the neighborhood within Shuri, but opened as Shuri Station on August 10, 2003. It serves the center of downtown Shuri, Shuri Castle, and its environs. Despite being the terminus, the station is designed much like all the others on the Okinawa Monorail.

Shikina-en

The gardens of Shikina-en are located on a small hill to the south of Shuri Castle in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The gardens were laid out in 1799 to embellish one of the residences of the Shō family, rulers of the Ryūkyū Kingdom; they were used for the reception of an envoy from China the following year.

Shuri Castle

Shuri Castle is a Ryūkyūan castle in Shuri, Okinawa. It was the palace of the Ryūkyū Kingdom. In 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa, it was almost completely destroyed. Beginning in 1992, it was reconstructed on the original site based on photographs, historical records, and memory.
