Malindi

Malindi (once known as Melinde) is a town on Malindi Bay at the mouth of the Galana River, lying on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. It is 120 kilometres northeast of Mombasa. The population of Malindi is 117,735 (in 1999 census). It is the capital of the Malindi District. Tourism is the major industry in Malindi. The city is exceptionally popular among Italian tourists. Malindi is served with a domestic airport and a highway between Mombasa and Lamu.

Malindi Airport is an airport in Kenya. It is located in Malindi District, Coast Province, in the town of Malindi, in southeastern Kenya, at the Indian Ocean coast. Its location is approximately 412 kilometres, by air, southeast of Nairobi International Airport, the country’s largest civilian airport. The geographic coordinates of this airport are:3° 12' 54.00"S, 40° 6' 0.00"E .

Athi-Galana-Sabaki River

Sabaki redirects here. For the group of languages, see Sabaki languages; for the go term, see Go terms: Sabaki Athi-Galana-Sabaki River is the second longest river in Kenya. It has a total length of 390 km, and drains a basin area of 70,000 km². The river rises at 1° 42' S. as Athi River and enters the Indian Ocean as Galana River (also known as Sabaki River).

Gedi

Gede (also known as Gedi) is a village on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya, lying south of Malindi and north of Watamu. The Ruins of Gedi are located there. Although not thought to be mentioned in historic sources, extensive ruins of a former port have been dated to the thirteenth century or earlier, including a tomb with a date corresponding to 1399, until at least the seventeenth century. Later, the port was abandoned and not rediscovered until the 1920s.

Watamu

Watamu is a small town located approximately 150km north of Mombasa and about 15km south of Malindi on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. It lies on a small headland, between the Blue Lagoon and Watamu Bay. Its main economic activities are tourism and fishing. The shoreline in the area features white sand beaches and offshore coral formations arranged in three bays: Watamu Bay, Blue Lagoon and Turtle Bay. They are protected as part of the Watamu Marine National Park.
