Keiyo District

Keiyo District (also known as Elgeyo district or Elgeiyo) is an administrative district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The district was formed in 1994, when Elgeyo/Marakwet-District was split into two, the other half is Marakwet District of today. Keiyo District has a population of 143.865 http://www. cck. go. ke/html/final_annex1_cover_status. pdf. Its capital is located in the Iten/Tambach town. Local people are mostly of the Keiyo Tribe.

Kaptarakwa

Kapatarakwa is a growing centre in Keiyo District, Rift Valley Province, Kenya. Kaptarakwa is located about 37 km from the town of Eldoret in the Kenyan highlands. Notable natives include athletes Albert Chepkurui, Sammy Kipketer, Viola Kibiwott, Jonathan Kandie and Vivian Cheruiyot. Former powerful minister Hon. Nicholas Kipyator Biwott is a current resident. Kaptarakwa is about 8000ft above sea level. Nearby is the Kerio Escarpment which drops down to 1000 ft above sea level.

Lake Kamnarok

Lake Kamnarok is a lake in Kenya, at the base of the Kerio Valley. The name originated from the word narok, which is a species of water plant that was widely found in the lake in the early stages of the lake formation. The lake is 1 km² in size. It was in existence before 1961 but the flood rains of that year led to its enlargement. The flooding disaster saw people living in the area being evacuated in order to save lives.

Kerio River

The Kerio River is a river in Rift Valley Province, Kenya. It flows southward into Lake Turkana. It is one of the longest rivers in Kenya, originating near the equator.
