Ventspils Starptautiskais Radioastronomijas Centrs

Ventspils Starptautiskais Radioastronomijas Centrs is an ex-Soviet radio astronomy installation 30 km north of Ventspils, Latvia, on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The installation was secret until 1993 when it was taken over by the Latvian Academy of Sciences after the withdrawal of the Soviet Army in 1994, after Latvia regained independence. Since then, the radio telescopes have been repaired.

Lūžņa

Lūžņa is a populated place in Tārgale parish, Ventspils municipality, Latvia, one of the twelve Livonian villages on the Livonian coast. Lūžņa was a long fishing hamlet at the coast of the Baltic Sea about 30 kilometers from Ventspils in the direction of Kolka. During the time of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, a military base was located not far from Lūžņa forcing the inhabitants to move elsewhere.
