Tuaran district has an area of 1,166 square kilometres and an estimated population of 105,435 in 2010. About half the population consists of ethnic Dusun and a third are of ethnic Bajau descent. The remainder are mostly of the Chinese community, particularly from the Hakka subgroup . It has a distinctive nine-story Chinese pagoda as a prominent landmark.

Kundasang is a village in district of Ranau, Sabah, Borneo that lies along the bank of Kundasang Valley. It is located about 6 kilometres away from Kinabalu National Park, 12 kilometres from Ranau town and is renowned for its vegetable market which is open seven days a week. It is the closest village to Mount Kinabalu and has a panoramic view of the Mountain. It is populated mainly by the native Dusun and a very small population of Chinese people. Almost all the shops are operated by locals.

Pig Hill (Mount Kinabalu)
Pig Hill is an ultramafic area situated at approximately 2000 m above sea level on the southeastern side of Mount Kinabalu in Kinabalu National Park, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. It is located to the east of Mesilau, some 4 hours' walk from the Mesilau Nature Resort. A number of pitcher plant species are found on Pig Hill, including N. burbidgeae (1900–1950 m), N. rajah (1950–2320 m), and the natural hybrid between the two, N. × alisaputrana (1930–1950 m).
