Cerro Prieto Geothermal Power Station

The Cerro Prieto Geothermal Power Station is a large complex of geothermal power stations, with an installed capacity of 720 MW, with plans for expansion up to 820 MW by 2012. The facility is located in south Mexicali, Baja California, in Mexico, and is built in five individual units, namely CP1, CP2, CP3, CP4 and CP5.

Cerro Prieto

Cerro Prieto is a volcano located approximately 29 km (18 mi) SSE of Mexicali in the Mexican state of Baja California. The volcano lies astride a spreading center associated with the East Pacific Rise. This spreading center is also responsible for a large geothermal field which has been harnessed to generate electric power by the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Power Station.

General Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada International Airport Is an international airport located outside Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. It is the northern-most airport in the state of Baja California and the country of Mexico. It is named after Mexican military officer, politician and former Governor of Baja California Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada.

1979 Imperial Valley earthquake

The 1979 Imperial Valley earthquake occurred at 16:16 Pacific Standard Time on October 15 just south of the United States - Mexico border and impacted the Imperial Valley in southeastern Southern California and the Mexicali Valley in northern Baja California. With a relatively shallow hypocenter, it caused property damage estimated at $30 million, and badly affected the irrigation systems in the Imperial Valley, but was not responsible for any deaths.
