Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve

The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a conservation area and World Heritage Site within the wintering grounds of most of the monarch butterflies that migrate from east of the Rocky Mountains for up to 4,000 km south to central Mexico. The reserve is located in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine-oak forests ecoregion on the border of Michoacán and Mexico State, 100 km (62 milles), northwest of Mexico City.

Zitácuaro

Zitácuaro, officially known as Heroica Zitácuaro, is a city in the Mexican state of Michoacán. The city is the administrative centre for the surrounding municipality of the same name, which lies at the extreme eastern side of Michoacán and borders on the adjacent state of México. The city reported a population of 78,821 in the 2005 census, while the municipality had a population of 136,491. The city is the fifth largest in the state, as is the municipality.

XETUMI-AM

XETUMI-AM (La Voz Mazahua Otomí – "The Mazahua Otomi Voice") is an indigenous community radio station that broadcasts in Spanish, Mazahua and Otomi from El Malacate, municipality of Tuxpan, in the Mexican state of Michoacán. It is run by the Cultural Indigenist Broadcasting System (SRCI) of the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples (CDI).
