Gran Glaciar Norte

Gran Glaciar Norte is the largest ice cap and firn field in México. It is located on Pico de Orizaba (Volcán Citlaltépetl) (5,636 metres) which is the highest point in Mexico. It contains nine named glaciers, including seven outlet glaciers, and a mountain niche glacier. The elevation of these glaciers range from near 5,610 m to 4,700 m .

William F. Raynolds

William Franklin Raynolds (March 17, 1820 – October 18, 1894) was a U.S. Army officer, explorer, engineer, Mexican War and Civil War veteran who is best known for leading the 1859-1860 Raynolds Expedition while serving as a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Topographical Engineers. Raynolds was also a temporary Brevet Brigadier General in 1865 for meritorious services during the Civil War and retired from the Corps of Engineers a full Colonel on March 17, 1884, after a 40-year military career.

Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt

The Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt (Eje Volcánico Transversal) also known as the Transvolcanic Belt and locally as the Sierra Nevada (Snowy Mountain Range), is a volcanic belt that extends 900 km from west to east across central-southern Mexico. Several of its highest peaks have snow all year long, and during clear weather, they are visible to a large proportion of those who live on the many high plateaus from which these volcanoes rise.
