Veracruz dry forests

The Veracruz dry forests are a tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forest ecoregion located in central Veracruz, Mexico. They cover an area of 6,600 km . The dry climate is a result of the rain shadow created by the Sierra de Chiconquiaco. The forests receive <1,000 mm of annual rainfall, and a long dry season forces many plants to be deciduous. Soils are derived from sedimentary rocks and are calcareous.

Tlalixcoyan, Veracruz

Tlalixcoyan (pronounced Tlah-lees-koh-yan) is a municipality in Veracruz, Mexico. Tlalixcoyan is bordered by: Alvarado, Medellín, and Cotaxtla and is on Mexican Federal Highways 180 and 190. Lorenzo Barcelata, composer, was born in Tlalixcoyan, Veracruz, and he died in Mexico City from cholera. In Tlalixcoyan the main indigenous language is the Chinantec.

Santiago Sochiapan

Santiago Sochiapan is a municipality located in the south of the Papaloapan zone in the central zone of the State of Veracruz, about 240 km from state capital Xalapa. It has a surface of 40.04 km2. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:18|39|N|95|44|W||| | |name= }}. The name comes from the language Náhuatl, Xochi-apa-tlan; that means “Place with blue flowers".

Antón Lizardo, Veracruz

Antón Lizardo is a fishing town (2005 population 4,586) located 23 km (14 mi) in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located south of the port city of Veracruz, near Boca del Río, in the municipality of Alvarado. In January 1860, the small naval Battle of Anton Lizardo occurred here between Mexican rebels and United States Navy warships. Since 11 November 1952, it is the home of the Heroica Escuela Naval Militar, the country's Naval Academy.
