Villa Aldama is a municipality located in the central zone in the State of Veracruz, about 33 km from state capital Xalapa. It has a surface of 78.96 km2. The fortress was built from 1770 to 1776 by Manuel de Santisteban as a guard post and repository for treasure prior to shipment to Spain.
