Frise (department)

Frise was the French name of Friesland as a département of the First French Empire. Frise was formed in 1811-01-01, after the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. It was the successor of the Friesland Department which was formed in 1802. Its capital, then as now, was Leeuwarden. The département was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons: Leeuwarden, cantons: Bergum, Buitenpost, Dokkum, Dronrijp, Franeker, Hallum, Harlingen, Holwerd and Leeuwarden.

Waskemeer

Waskemeer is a village of about 870 inhabitants in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the east of Friesland in the Netherlands. The village lies in the north of Ooststellingwerf. It is named after a pond 2 km to the west called Waskmar, which in turn means wash-lake as it was used to wash sheep.

Veenhuizen, Noordenveld

Veenhuizen is a village (around 800 inhabitants) that was in the municipality Norg before is was reorganized to be a part of a larger collection of municipalities including the lager village of Roden to become the municipality of Noordenveld (since 1998). The larger cities in the area are Groningen and Assen (20 to 30 km) and Amsterdam and Bremen (around 200 km). Veenhuizen has an elevation of about 7 metres.
