Holmes's Bonfire

Holmes's Bonfire was a raid on the Vlie estuary in the Netherlands, executed by the English Fleet during the Second Anglo-Dutch War on 19 and 20 August 1666. The attack, named after the commander of the landing force, Rear-Admiral Robert Holmes, was successful in destroying by fire a large merchant fleet of 140 ships. During the same action the town of West-Terschelling was burnt down, causing an outrage in the Dutch Republic.

West-Terschelling

West-Terschelling is a village on Terschelling in the province Friesland of the Netherlands and has about 2580 citizens. The town was burned by the English Navy in 1666, during the Second Anglo-Dutch War, in an event referred to as "Holmes's Bonfire". A pub was named after the Oka 18, a ship that sank near Formerum.

Brandaris

The Brandaris is a lighthouse on the Dutch Wadden Sea island Terschelling, in Friesland. The first Brandaris was built in 1323, but it was destroyed in 1570. The current tower was built in 1594 and is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 35032 and is rated with a very high historical value.

De Grië

De Grië is a restaurant located in Oosterend, Terschelling, in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in the period 1993-2005 and in 2007. Head chef of De Grië is Joos van Strien. In the time of the Michelin star, Ton van Scheppingen was the head chef. The restaurant was originally located at "Hoofdstraat 43" in Oosterend. In 2006 the restaurant moved to the new hotel Paal 8 Hotel aan Zee.

Baaiduinen

Baaiduinen is a village on the Frisian Wadden Sea island Terschelling in the Netherlands. As of January 1, 2005, it had 123 inhabitants. Baaiduinen is surrounded by the much older hamlets of Kinnum, Kaart (Kaard) en Horp. Baaiduinen is the youngest village on Terschelling and has only been recognized as a separate settlement in the 19th century. North of Baaiduinen is a polder landscaped named het Hoge Land ("the highlands").
