Zwarte Water

The Zwarte Water ("Black Water") is a river in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is formed just south of the city of Zwolle when two streams, the Soestwetering and the Nieuwe Wetering, merge. The Zwarte Water then flows north through Zwolle, bends to the northeast, takes in the Vecht near Hasselt and flows past the town of Zwartsluis to discharge itself in the Zwarte Meer near Genemuiden.

Genemuiden

Genemuiden is a city located in the north western part of the Province of Overijssel. It received city rights in 1275 which is also the first time Genemuiden gets mentioned in history. It stayed independent up until 2001 when, despite fierce opposition of its inhabitants, it was forced to merge with the smaller, neighbouring villages of Zwartsluis and Hasselt to form the municipality of Zwartewaterland.

Belt-Schutsloot

Belt-Schutsloot is a small village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 3 km north of Zwartsluis. The village originally consisted of two parts, Belt (also called "Zandbelt") and Schutsloot, and was also called "Schutsloot en Zandbelt". Belt-Schutsloot has a population of about 590.

Ambt Vollenhove

Ambt Vollenhove is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It consisted of the countryside surrounding the city of Vollenhove, which was a separate municipality. Ambt Vollenhove existed from 1818 to 1942 when it became a part of Vollenhove.

Zwartsluis

Zwartsluis is a small city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Zwartewaterland, at the mouth of the Zwarte Water River and the Meppelerdiep canal. The town is home to many recreational boats, as well as a heritage fleet of fishing and cargo vessels. The Arembergergracht links the town with the Beulaker and Belter lakes and a multitude of smaller bodies of water just north, created by peat digging.
