Matamata-Piako District

The Matamata-Piako District is a local government area in the Waikato region of New Zealand. It lies to the east of the city of Hamilton. The district encompasses the southern end of the Hauraki Plains and much of the Thames Valley, and is bounded in the east by the Kaimai Range. The rivers Piako and Waihou run through the district. The towns of Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha are all within the district, with the Council's head office based in Te Aroha.

Walton, New Zealand

Walton is a settlement in New Zealand. It is sited at the junction of Walton Road and Morrinsville Walton Road, in the Central Waikato Region. The area is predominantly dairying with some maize growing and meat chicken farming. A large thoroughbred horse stud also has its base there. Industry is small consisting mainly of small service industries but there is a large grain drying plant sited next to the railway line.

Waitoa

Waitoa is a settlement in New Zealand. The population in the 2006 census was 318, a decrease of 42 people since 2001. A Fonterra dairy factory is a prominent blue building in the middle of the town.

Mangateparu

Mangateparu is a farming service community located close to the west bank of the Piako River, eight kilometres north of Morrinsville in the Waikato region of New Zealand. It has a population of about 400 people. The local school was forced to close in 2004. The name comes from the Maori words "manga", stream; "te", the; and "paru", muddy or deep.

Waharoa

Waharoa is a rural community 7 km north of Matamata in New Zealand. It is located at the railway junction of the Kinleith Branch railway with the East Coast Main Trunk Railway. State Highway 27 runs through the town. The Pa and Marae are the centre of the community.
