Altmark Incident

The Altmark Incident was a naval skirmish of World War II between the United Kingdom and Nazi Germany, which happened on 16 February 1940. It took place in what were, at that time, neutral Norwegian waters. To date, it is the last major boarding action fought by the Royal Navy.

Jøssingfjord

Jøssingfjord is a fjord located within the municipality of Sokndal in south-western Norway. The fjord is known as the location of the Altmark Incident, where, during World War II, on February 16, 1940, the British destroyer Cossack managed to free prisoners taken by the Admiral Graf Spee from the German tanker Altmark. During the war, the term Jøssing came to mean a Norwegian patriot, the opposite of a Quisling (or traitor).

Hauge i Dalane (Haua in the local dialect) is the administrative center of Sokndal municipality, Norway. The origin of the name Hauge is from the Old Norse word Haugr meaning mound. Its total area is 2.35 km². Its population (as of January 1, 2006) is 2,182, with a population density of 929 residents per km². The postal code for Hauge i Dalane is 4380.
