The 1928 Chachapoyas earthquake occurred on May 14, 1928 at 17:14 local time . It had a magnitude of Mw 7.2, Ms 7.3, or ML 7.3. Chachapoyas, Peru was almost completely destroyed. Utcubamba river

The Utcubamba River (Rio Utcubamba) is a river in the Amazonas Region of Peru, located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:5|32|6|S|78|33|9|W|type:river_region:PE | |name= }}. The river's name is Quechua for "cotton fields". The name is a historical reference to the past agricultural practice of growing cotton in the Utcubamba Valley. The Utcubamba River originates in the highlands of the central cordillera, then flows north through Amazonas before joining the Marañón River.
