Puno
Puno is a city in southeastern Peru, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It is the capital city of the Puno Region and the Puno Province with a population of approximately 100,000. The city was established in 1668 by viceroy Pedro Antonio Fernández de Castro as capital of the province of Paucarcolla with the name San Juan Bautista de Puno. Waru Warn or Waru Waru is an agricultural technique developed by pre hispanic peoples in the Andes region of South America, from Colombia to Bolivia. It is dated around 300 B.C. The technique has been revived in 1984, in Tiawanaco, Bolivia, and Puno, Peru. The technique consists in combining raised beds with irrigation channels so as to prevent damage due to soil erosion during floods.
