Legnica County

Legnica County is a unit of territorial administration and local government in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, south-western Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. The county covers an area of 744.6 square kilometres . Its administrative seat is the city of Legnica, although this city is not part of the county (it forms a separate city county, which is an enclave within Legnica County).

Legnica Airport

Legnica Airport in Poland serves the town of Legnica (106,000 inhabitants, 500,000 nearby Okręg Miedziowy/ Copper Basin conurbation of Legnica, Głogów, Lubin and Polkowice). It is a former military airport (runway length 1600 m, width 40 m) located in the town centre, that could be expanded only if the nearby railroad line were moved into a tunnel, and could serve only as a city airport.

Legnickie Pole

Legnickie Pole (in 1945-1948 Dobre Pole, original German: Wahlstatt) is a village in Legnica County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It is the seat of the administrative district called Gmina Legnickie Pole. Prior to 1945 it was in Germany. It lies approximately 10 kilometres southeast of Legnica, and 56 kilometres west of the regional capital Wrocław. The village has a population of 780.

The Battle of Legnica (Polish: Bitwa pod Legnicą), also known as the Battle of Liegnitz (German: Schlacht von Liegnitz) or Battle of Wahlstatt (German: Schlacht bei Wahlstatt), was a battle between the Mongol Empire and the combined defending forces of European fighters that took place at Legnickie Pole (Wahlstatt) near the city of Legnica in the Silesia province of the Kingdom of Poland on 9 April 1241.
