Serra do Bussaco

Serra do Bussaco, (also Buçaco) is a mountain range in Portugal, formerly included in the province of Beira Litoral. The highest point in the range is the Cruz Alta (1795 feet), which commands a magnificent view over the Serra da Estrela, the Mondego River valley and the Atlantic Ocean. The Serra includes the buildings of a secularized Carmelite monastery, founded in 1628.

Battle of Bussaco

The Battle of Bussaco (27 September 1810) resulted in the defeat of French forces by Lord Wellington's Anglo-Portuguese Army, in Portugal during the Peninsular War. Having occupied the heights of Bussaco (a 10-mile long ridge located at 40°20'40"N, 8°20'15"W) with 25,000 British and the same number of Portuguese, Wellington was attacked five times successively by 65,000 French under Marshal André Masséna.

São Caetano (Cantanhede)

São Caetano is a Portuguese parish in Cantanhede Municipality, with 17.23 square kilometers in area and 938 inhabitants (2001). Density: 54.4 inhabitants / km ². The seat is about ten kilometers from Cantanhede. The parish is limited, the South by Cantanhede, Cadima and Sanguinheira; the west by Tocha, the east by Febres and Vilamar; and North, by Corticeiro de Cima and by Mira. Economic activity is largely based on agriculture and jewellery.

Choupal National Forest

Choupal National Forest (Portuguese: Mata Nacional do Choupal) is a national forest in Coimbra, Portugal. It is a short distance from the city downtown and runs alongside the Mondego River. The forest has trails for jogging, walking, cycling and horse-riding. This grove of poplar trees (choupos), was planted in an attempt to stop the floods of the Mondego.

Baixo Mondego Subregion

Baixo Mondego (Lower Mondego in English) is a Portuguese NUTS3 subregion that comprises the lower part of the Mondego River. It is a subregion of the Centro Region and is centered on the historical city of Coimbra. With an area of 2,062 km² and a population of 336,376 inhabitants (of which half are in the cities of Coimbra and Figueira da Foz), the Baixo Mondego is a subregion with a mean density of 163/km².
