The Gilão is a river in southern Portugal. It is approachable from the Atlantic Ocean, where it enters at the town of Tavira in the Algarve, 35 km east of Faro. The river Gilão changes its name to Rio Séqua at the ancient bridge named Ponte Romana in the center of Tavira . The channel is clear, but a bit meandering. Cacela Island
Cacela Island, in the Algarve region of mainland Portugal, was a peninsula up to the winter of 2010, when the sea cut the peninsula and turned its westernmost part into an island. Access to the island's beach is made by the public service of boat in summertime (1.5 € a round-trip per adult) near the Cacela Velha pier named Fábrica. The former peninsula was 4.4 kilometres in length and its width was 0.05 to 0.15 km.
