Yuzhsky District

Yuzhsky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the twenty-one in Ivanovo Oblast, Russia. It is located in the south of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,341 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Yuzha. Population: 25,728; 28,793; 33,792. The population of Yuzha accounts for 55.1% of the district's total population.

Kholuy miniature

A Kholuy miniature is a Russian folk handicraft of miniature painting, made with tempera on a varnished box of papier-mâché. This form of Russian lacquer art is produced exclusively by students of the Kholuy school, a rural settlement in Ivanovo Oblast. The Kholuy school of icon painting was founded in 1883. The school continued the local handicraft of icon painting known since the 16th century, but after the Russian Revolution the icon painting workshops were closed.

Mstyora (urban locality)

Mstyora or Mstera is an urban locality in Vyaznikovsky District of Vladimir Oblast, Russia. Municipally, it is a part of Mstyora Urban Settlement, of which it is the administrative center. Population: 4,859; 5,598; 6,307. It grew up as a settlement attached to the nearby monastery of the Epiphany (Богоявленский монастырь), on land belonging to the Romodanovskys, in the early 17th century.

Palekh

Palekh is an urban locality and the administrative center of Palekhsky District of Ivanovo Oblast, Russia. Population: 5,337; 5,814; 6,202. Palekh has a very long history in Russian iconography, the art of painting Russian Orthodox icons for homes and churches. The village emerged as a leading center of Russian icon- and mural-painting in the nineteenth century. A good example of the Palekh school are the murals and icons from the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross (built in 1762–1774).
