Mannerheim Line

The Mannerheim Line was a defensive fortification line on the Karelian Isthmus built by Finland against the Soviet Union. During the Winter War it became known as the Mannerheim Line, after Field Marshal Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. The line was constructed in two phases: 1920–1924 and 1932–1939. By November 1939, when the Winter War began, the line was by no means complete.

Staroselye, Vyborgsky District, Leningrad Oblast

Staroselye is a village on Karelian Isthmus, in Vyborgsky District of Leningrad Oblast, located at the head of Zagorsky gulf, Lake Glubokoye. Before 1939, it bore its Finnish name and was a part of Viipuri Province, Finland. It also consisted of four lesser villages: Jääskelä, Norkkola, Orola, Pyykkölä. In 1948 Jääskelä was renamed to Voskhod, after a kolkhoz of the same name, which has been located in the village. Soon after it was renamed again to Staroselye.

Kirillovskoye, Leningrad Oblast
