Church of the Intercession on the Nerl

The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin on the Nerl River (Russian: Церковь Покрова на Нерли, Tserkov Pokrova na Nerli) is an Orthodox church and a symbol of medieval Russia. The church is situated at the confluence of Nerl and Klyazma Rivers in Bogolyubovo, Suzdalsky District, Vladimir Oblast, 13 km north-east of the ancient capital of Vladimir. The church was commissioned by Andrei Bogolyubsky. The exact construction date is unknown.

Sungir

Sungir is an Upper Paleolithic archaeological site in Russia and one of the earliest records of modern Homo sapiens in Europe. It is situated about 200 km east of Moscow, on the outskirts of Vladimir, and is dated to between 28,000 and 30,000 years ago. It served as a grave to an older man and two children and was discovered in 1955. The site was excavated between 1957 and 1977.

Vladimir Central Prison

The Vladimir Prison, colloquially known as "Vladimirsky Central" (Russian: Владимирский централ, from "Vladimir Central Prison"), is a prison for dangerous criminals in Vladimir, Russia, about 100 miles northeast of Moscow. It was established in 1783. Most are serving a minimum of 10 years, and some are imprisoned for life. This prison is the largest in Russia. Prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the complex served as an infamous prison for political prisoners of the Soviet regime.

Kideksha

Kideksha is a village in Suzdalsky District of Vladimir Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Kamenka and Nerl Rivers, 4 kilometers east of Suzdal. The settlement was founded before the Church of Boris and Gleb was built in 1152 by Yuri Dolgoruky. Kideksha used to be a town, but, after having been destroyed during the Mongol invasion of Rus, it degraded to a small village. Kideksha is a part of the Golden Ring of Russia and, since 1992, is one of Russia's World Heritage Sites.
