Kalec Castle

Kalec Castle (Slovene: Grad Kalec, originally Kalc or Kauc) is a partially ruined castle near Zagorje in Slovenia. The castle, of which only a single tower and some sections of wall survive intact, stands on slope known as Breg, near the source of the river Pivka, at an elevation of 618 m. Illustrated in Valvasor's 1689 Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, it was built in the mid-17th century by the noble house of Steinberg.

Rupa, Croatia

Rupa is a village in northwest Croatia near its border with Slovenia. It is located in Matulji municipality in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, 17 km from the town of Matulji. It has a population of 310 (census 2001). Rupa is a major border crossing between the two countries where Croatia's Autocesta A7 motorway connects with Slovenia's Highway 7. The Slovenian town opposite Rupa is Jelšane in Ilirska Bistrica municipality.

Slavnik

Slavník (died 981) was a Bohemian nobleman, the founder of Slavník's dynasty. He is said to have had consanguinity with the Saxon kings. He had several children by his wife Střezislava. Six of his sons are known by name: Soběslav (his heir), Saint Adalbert (Vojtěch), Spytimír, Pobraslav, Pořej and Čáslav. He had also a son named Radim (Gaudentius) by another woman (probably a concubine). According to Cosmas' chronicle, Slavník was a happy man all his lifetime.

Notranjsko-kraška Statistical Region

The Inner Carniola–Karst Statistical Region (Slovene: Notranjsko-kraška statistična regija) is a statistical region in the south-west of Slovenia. Its most important features are Postojna Cave and the intermittent Lake Cerknica. It is one of the smallest regions of Slovenia and is the least densely populated. It represents only 2% of Slovenia’s national GDP. The region includes the following municipalities: Bloke, Cerknica, Ilirska Bistrica, Loška Dolina, Pivka, and Postojna.

Lake Palčje

Lake Palčje is an intermittent lake in the Pivka basin north of the settlement Palčje in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It fills an oval-shaped karst depression, crossed by Pivka, and approximately 1.5 km long and 0.5 km wide. Its bottom is relatively level at between 543 and 557 m above the sea, but the banks are steep. Lake Palčje is the largest among the Pivka Lakes with average maximum water area around 1 km².
