Blyde River Canyon

The Blyde River Canyon is a significant natural feature of South Africa, located in Mpumalanga, and forming the northern part of the Drakensberg escarpment. It is 16 miles in length and is, on average, around 2,500 feet deep. The Blyderivierpoort Dam, when full, is at an altitude of 665m (2182 feet). The Canyon consists mostly of red sandstone.

Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve

Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve (or Motlatse Canyon Provincial Nature Reserve) is situated in the Drakensberg escarpment region of eastern Mpumalanga, South Africa. The reserve protects the Blyde River Canyon, including sections of the Ohrigstad and Blyde Rivers and the geological formations around Bourke's Luck Potholes, where the Treur River tumbles into the Blyde below.

Blyderivierpoort Dam

Blyderivierpoort Dam is an gravity-arch dam on the Blyde River, near Hoedspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa. It was established in 1975. Its key purpose is for industrial and municipal usage (sanitation).

Deneys Reitz

Deneys Reitz (1882—1944), son of Francis William Reitz, was a Boer soldier, later a South African soldier in the First World War, and a politician. While in exile in Madagascar, he wrote about his experience of the Second Boer War (1899–1902), so that, when it was eventually edited and published in 1929 as Commando: A Boer Journal Of The Boer War, it still had the freshness and detail of an account written soon after the war.

Caspersnek Pass

Caspersnek Pass is an untarred Drakensberg pass that straddles the border between the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa, to connect the Ohrigstad and Blyde valleys. It offers a shortcut from the town of Ohrigstad to the resort area of Bourke's Luck, and rises to an altitude of 4,600 feet, where it also provides access to the Morgenzon conservation area.
